B7 Baltic Islands Network held high level meetings in Tallinn on 19-20 January 2010
The B7 Board met with the EU Affairs Committee and the Islands Group of the Estonian Parliament, the Ambassador of Finland, His Excellency Jaakko Kalela and Ms Carita Pettersson, the Director of Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Estonia; the head of the European Commission representation in Tallinn, Mr Toivo Klaar; the Programme Coordinator of Tallinn 2011, European Capital of Culture, Ms Triin Männik, and the adviser to the President of Estonia, Ms Heli Suvi.
The B7 works under the Hiiumaa Chairmanship in 2010. „We look forward to creating an interesting and beneficial annual programme for the islanders of the Baltic Sea," says Hannes Maasel, the President of the B7 in 2010 and the Mayor of Hiiu County. "Our main focus will be on the Baltic Sea Strategy. The B7 has already taken an active role in the elaboration of the Strategy. Now we want to see this programme coming to life."
The major events according to the programme are a conference on Life Quality in May and the Annual Conference on Planning Europe in Hiiumaa (Estonia) in November as well as Rudolf Tobias Youth Music Festival in Hiiumaa and B7 Youth Sport Games in Rügen (Germany) in July. The main political events are meetings with the EU Commission and Parliament in Brussels in March and Almedal Week in Gotland (Sweden) in July. The B7 also plans to visit St Petersburg to study the developments of EU policy on Northern Dimension.
